This gorgeous little alley stretches only from Jackson Square to Royal Street.

There are various rumors as to why this alley got its name, but one of the most common is that vendors (and perhaps some of the pirate variety) would line up on this alley to sell to the parishioners after they left church.
Flickr.com / Gabi in Austin But there are other rumors of hauntings in the alley. Another very historic home in the area is that of Faulkner House Books, where William Faulkner wrote the novel Solider’s Pay. Some say that his ghost also haunts the alley.
Perhaps the most infamous ghost in the alley is Jean Lafitte, who has been said wander this alley at night.

Perhaps the most ominous part of the alley is this infamous “touchdown Jesus” that overlooks the gardens behind St. Louis Cathedral.
