Over the years, Minnesota has captivated audiences in more than a few motion pictures. Here are some places you’ve surely seen on the big screen:
- Mall of America - Seen in Jingle All The Way (1996).
Flickr/Jim Moore They also filmed in several other Twin Cities locations. Nothing like Arnold running through St. Paul.
- Rice Park and the Winter Carnival - Featured in 1992’s The Mighty Ducks.
Flickr/Teresa Boardman A hockey classic would of course be in Minnesota.
- Bryant Lake Bowl - Beautiful Girls (1996).

- Palisade Head - The Good Son (1993).
Flickr/bhs128 This was the best cliff they could find for the final fight scene.
- The Paul Bunyan Statue - One was specially made for Fargo.
Flickr/Amy Meredith While the actual statue was made for the movie, it made all of the other Paul Bunyans in Minnesota famous.
- Wabasha - Again replicated for a movie, Grumpy Old Men (1993).
Flickr/Passej They still have the Grumpy Old Men Festival, with ice fishing, a pet pageant, bingo, a cribbage tournament and live music.
- The Fitzgerald Theater - A Prairie Home Companion (2006)
Flickr/Chris Yunker St. Paul’s oldest operating theater has been home to the Prairie Home Companion radio program and live show for a long, long time.
- Eden Prairie Center - Mallrats (1995).
Bobak Ha’Eri,
- First Ave 7th Street Entry - Purple Rain (1984).
Tony Webster An instant cult classic and featuring one of Minnesota’s favorite places.
- Mickey’s Diner - In The Mighty Ducks, Jingle All the Way, and A Prairie Home Companion.
Flickr/Jerry Huddleston It’s St. Paul’s favorite!
Clearly, Hollywood loves Minnesota, and who could blame them with classic places like these! How many of these places have you been to?
