People have long been coming to New Hampshire to get away from it all. One of the favorite destinations, of course, is New Hampshire’s lakes. Families have been coming to the Lakes Region for generations, and as this rare footage from 1929 shows, the lakes used to be a completely different place!
Today, Lake Winnipesaukee, the state’s biggest lake, is also the most crowded. Thousands of visitors and locals flock to Winnipesaukee for boating, swimming and other summer fun. In 2016, there is hardly any shoreline that hasn’t been built up.
However, check out how empty the lake was more than 85 years ago! This historic footage from New Hampshire shows what life was like at the summer escapes when only a lucky few could vacation on the lake!
