The best way to experience Oregon’s beauty is undoubtably on foot. The Beaver State is woven with hundreds of amazing hiking trails, from the coasts all the way to the deserts of eastern Oregon. One of the most exceptional hikes of them all is the wondrous Saddle Mountain Hike, located in Clatsop County. This 5.2-mile trail leads through a gorgeous forest and past mountainside meadows all the way to the summit of the incredible Saddle Mountain, where you’ll be rewarded with the most phenomenal views. The trail is rated as moderate due to the steep elevation gain and (sometimes) loose footing. You’ll feel the burn in your thighs, but the views and fresh air are oh so rewarding. Luckily, there are many scenic places to stop and rest along the trail.

The hike is best experienced in the warmer months, from April into November.

If you want to extend your trip, you’ll have the option to stay the night at one of the walk-in campsites located near the trailhead.
