On June 5, the Friends of the Cambridge Public Library’s Secret Garden Tour invites the public to enter the oases of lush, private gardens hidden in backyards across the city.

Visitors will have the chance to explore 61 gardens this year, 25 of which are being included in the tour for the first time.

In order for a garden to be eligible, it can’t be visible from the street or sidewalk. These have to be truly hidden natural nooks. In addition, the garden must include some sort of special or fascinating feature that sets it apart from the crowd. These features can include beautiful sculpture, rare plants or an innovative design.

The tour isn’t guided, but each participant’s ticket acts as a map that will direct them to the different gardens in each section of the tour. There are five sections total, with at least seven gardens in each area.

Tickets to the event are only $25, and all proceeds benefit the Cambridge Public Library. The price of your ticket also includes one free raffle ticket for a chance to win a garden-themed gift basket.
