Some people might think Caledonia is just a wide place in the road, but this town in southeastern Minnesota is known for two things. First, it’s the Wild Turkey Capital of Minnesota. Second – and most importantly – it was named “The Heart of Quilt Country” by the Minnesota State Legislature in 2008. Why? Because of the sprawling barn quilt trail criss-crossing through the town and surrounding area.

The Caledonia barn quilt trail started when a local family decided to spruce up an old barn. Others liked the idea and decided to join in.

It has since grown into a larger project to highlight the importance of barns, the history of quilting, and the creativity of locals.
