Senoia Is Georgia S Best Kept Secret

When it comes to tiny towns in the United States, Georgia is home to quite a few. We’re talking TINY, tiny—even as small as less than 30 residents. (Hello, Edge Hill). But there is one small town that has stayed under the radar for the most part, despite being uniquely beautiful and extremely cool.

Of course we’re talking about Senoia, Georgia, pronounced “Suh-noy-uh.”

As of 2010, the population of Senoia was less than 4,000 residents, which makes it still a fairly small town. Yet, despite its size or small population, Senoia is one of the most historically charming places in the entire state.

It’s one of those towns that combines old school architecture and character with modern appeal. Truth be told, the history behind Senoia might be just as cool as the town stands now. Around 1828, a ton of people were traveling from Newberry, South Carolina in covered wagons, oxcarts, on horseback and by foot. Within this group were preachers, farmers, masons, and most any other occupation of the day. These forerunners settled in the historic town of Senoia and actually—still to this day—have numerous descendants continuing to make their homes in Senoia.

But if it wasn’t the history of Senoia or how beautifully charming it is that makes you want to visit, then maybe it’s the bit of Hollywood fanfare added to the mix. You see, Senoia is known for being the city where a few films and TV shows were shot. Most notably Fried Green Tomatoes, Driving Miss Daisy, and the 2011 remake of Footloose were partially filmed here. However, the most attention Senoia received was when they filmed part of Season 3 of the hit TV show The Walking Dead in the city limits. The town went absolutely crazy, and the show really left an impression on the inhabitants.

Truth be told, Senoia is a truly magical town. It is quaint and picturesque, and absolutely worth a drive through this summer. You can visit the buggy museum and peruse the old cars, or pack a picnic and visit the stunningly gorgeous Starr’s Mill, located about a few miles north of the city.
