2017 is making quite an entrance in the Southeastern U.S. as many residents find themselves bracing for a frozen and snowy weekend ahead. It’s an event that isn’t all too common in some parts of the Southeast, like Atlanta, GA, Montgomery, AL and Columbia, SC. Yet all three states are waiting and watching a major storm closing in on their backyards today and tomorrow.

The first major snow event of the season in the Southeast is bearing down on several Southern states.

By tomorrow night, Atlanta could be under approximately six inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Mobility impacts will begin as early as this afternoon and, by tonight the snow will be falling in grandeur. Georgians can expect from one to six inches in the winter storm warning areas shown in various shades of blue on the map above.

Central Alabama and northward will be affected with cold temps, freezing rain and snow.

National Weather Service/Birmingham Current forecasts from the National Weather Service predict up to three inches of sleet and snow as far south as Montgomery, Alabama.

South Carolinians are also right in the path of the winter storm.

National Weather Service Much of the Upstate region is expecting four to six inches of snow. In addition, parts of the midlands are bracing for one-to-three inches of snow. The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings as far inland as Columbia.

As with any drop in temperatures, with or with snow, there are some things you can do. Make sure you have plenty of provisions, like bread and milk. Check on your neighbors, bring pets inside – and make sure your Netflix subscription is current.
