The Pieta chapel is situated at the end of the Way of the Cross trail in the charming St. Donatus, Iowa’s own Luxembourg village.

The winding path up to the chapel is a big part of the whole experience.

This trail is believed to be the first of its kind in the United States. Along the trail, you will enjoy amazing scenery, including towering trees and ancient rock formations.

Don’t be surprised if you come across a friendly sheep wandering around during your walk.

At the end of the Way of the Cross is the Pietà Chapel.

The chapel is modeled after the Chapel du Bildchen in Vianden, Luxembourg.

Inside the chapel a statue of the pietà, portraying Mary cradling her son on her lap after the crucifixion.
