This village was founded in 1766. Over 500 ironworkers and their families were recruited from Germany to start this ironworking village.

The village prospered until 1882, when larger operations in Pittsburgh put the smaller village ironworks out of business.

Today, the old village sits in silence. Furnaces, ice houses, water wheels and blast furnaces all remain.

An old church, post office, schoolhouse and family homes are also still standing in the village.
