Although mines have a creepy element due to the large number of horror movies that take place in them, I think we can all agree that they carry a heavy dose of nostalgia as well. A lot of us have family members who worked in them and who told us stories of their 12+ hour daily plight. So what better way to pay homage to that and learn about what those before us endured than touring an actual mine?
There’s one in Texas at the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center in Fort Davis. The mine itself is a replica of the one that used to exist in the same location, but that doesn’t mean the artifacts, minerals, and history it holds are any less real. Take a look for yourself.
You’ll get to look at real mining artifacts from the late 1800s and early 1900s.

There are samples of ancient minerals from the desert inside the mine, too.

History will come to life as you walk through the shaft and learn about the ins and outs of the entire mining process.

The architecture is so good, you’ll never know it’s a replica - and you’ll get the exact same learning experience that you would if it were real.
Have you ever been to this mining exhibit?
