If you’ve ever driven through West Texas, you’ve probably seen gigantic fields dotted with windmills as far as the eye can see. What you probably didn’t know about them is that our state generates more wind power than any other state in the nation. That’s Texas for ya – everything is bigger and better, and we’re pretty darn proud of it.

Wind power accounted for 12.68% of the electricity generated in Texas last year, making us the top state in the nation for wind production.

Since our state contains ample farmland, farmers often lease plots to wind energy companies, thus increasing our production capabilities even further.

This industry has done wonders for unemployment, creating over 24,000 jobs both in local districts and for the state.

The largest wind farm is in Roscoe, but if you drive through West Texas, you’ll encounter countless other enormous fields with windmills as far as the eye can see.

Economic aspects aside, the windmills are actually quite beautiful, especially at sunset - blades turning in synchronicity and seemingly extending out to the horizon.

So whether you appreciate them for their immense contributions to the advancement of our state or simple because they’re aesthetically pleasing, our wind energy production here in Texas is a truly amazing thing.
