Many Minnesotans are unaware of the tangled system of streams buried beneath the streets in this city. During its development, there were several streams that became intertwined with the city’s infrastructure. It was a common development design for cities as they grew and expanded. Exploring the tunnels in any city is no doubt an amazing experience but none are as fascinating as those that can be seen under the streets of Duluth. Following a massive flood (like in 1972 and 2012) the underground creeks may be brought to attention, but normally they perform their daily duty unknown to the majority of Duluth.
