We can turn pretty much anything into a hotel here in Texas. Tepees, old jails, Spanish missions…and even train cars. Yep, that’s right – The Antlers Hotel in Kingsland features four retired train cars that have been renovated and fully furnished to house guests overnight. The inn was opened in 1901 by the railroad for tourists traveling by train, and it’s now a Texas Historic Landmark Hotel and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Not to mention it’s located right on Lake LBJ, so your stay comes with a breathtaking view that’s sure to relax and rejuvenate you.

The main hotel has six suites complete with antique decorations and old-fashioned wood flooring. It’s an escape to days of old without sacrificing any of the modern amenities you’re used to.

You can also opt to stay in a train car. All three cabooses were once real, working railroad cars and have been refurbished as little as possible to retain authenticity.

The fourth car is a wooden rail car with a cute little covered staircase leading up to the entrance. All of its amenities are identical to the other three.

Each car still has the conductor’s area in the front, so the little ones (or the young at heart!) can ring the bell and pretend to operate the train.

The amenities include climate control, full beds and baths, a living area with a TV, a kitchenette and an outdoor gas grill with a picnic table.
