While there are many herbs and essential oils that calm the nerves, lavender is the one we love most. Its crisp and clean scent is almost always on hand here during the winter when the cold and wind has us in need of a bit of an emotional boost. Did you know that the plant comes from the same family as mint? Other surprises include the fact that it can be used to deter mice, flies, mosquitoes and other pests AND that the nectar from the plant is used to make a high quality honey. But, the BEST lavender surprise is that there’s a farm dedicated to the wonderful plant located right here in Maine!
Welcome to Glendarragh Farm!

The farm is part of a homestead that dates back to 1822 and it once included cattle, poultry and other livestock that helped sustain the farmers that lived there.

The lavender is harvested on the farm, dried in their post-and-beam barn and then used for bath products, decorative pieces, culinary products, and more traditional purposes.

In 2007, Lorie and Patrick Costigan took over ownership of the homestead and planted 300 plants, which has become more than ten times that amount today!
