Anyone that’s lived in Rhode Island long enough knows that we’ve seen some pretty intense storms over the years. From the blizzard of 78, to Hurricane Irene in 2011, every decade brings at least one incident of epic and devastating weather. While all New Englanders have been through a few rough weather patches, few storms compare to this infamous hurricane that struck the coastal states in the 1930s.
Occurring in 1938, the deadly storm known as the New England Hurricane caused chaos and destruction across several states.

After forming off the coast of Africa, the hurricane became New England bound and was a category 3 storm when it first struck Long Island
