When the temperatures soar, it’s time to head for the hills and find a nice, cool swimming hole. Here’s one near Spearfish that not only offers a gorgeous swimming hole, complete with waterfall…but also has several natural waterslides!
To reach the Devil’s Bathtub, take the Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway. The trailhead starts near the Bridal Veils Falls turnoff.
Emma_Zen_foundation/Tripadvisor Grab a walking stick - you’ll cross the river multiple times.
The trail is just a half mile long (one way), but it can be rough going in spots. Make sure to wear some sturdy shoes that you can get wet.

The water is crystal-clear and nice and cool.

The Devil’s Bathtub has steep rock walls, with a pretty waterfall cascading into a pool below.
Don G./Tripadvisor Depending on the time of year, the pool is deep enough to submerge yourself and cool off.
Bring along some trekking poles or a walking stick to help you keep your balance and you cross and re-cross the creek. You’ll also need plenty of drinking water and some snacks if you plan to spend time splashing in the water. Sturdy shoes that you can get wet are a must!
