Joseph N. Nicollet was a 19th century explorer who spent time mapping the upper Mississippi River valley, leading three separate expeditions into what is now South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota. He was considered one of the most accurate mapmakers of his time. Many years after his death, Nicollet Tower was built to honor his legacy.
Nicollet Tower is located at 45356 SD-10, Sisseton. It’s near the border of South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota, just west of I-29.

The tower was completed in 1992, and stands 80 feet tall.

Visit the tower and Interpretive Center for free. It’s open Monday through Friday 10:30 am to 5:00 pm; Sunday 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
