Sometimes, you just need an escape from the hustle and bustle of your life and lose yourself in nature. There’s just something about surrounding yourself in that quiet, serene setting that seems to center yourself, giving you all the energy you need to get back to your life. There are several trails in Louisiana that will re-energize you and give you that nature fix you’re craving, but there’s one place in particular that will transport you to another world. Barataria Preserve is the perfect place to go when you’re looking to get away from it all and surround yourself in nature.
Located in Marrero, the Barataria Preserve offers a glimpse of Louisiana’s wild wetlands.

The preserve is 20,000 acres that include bayous, swamps, marshes, forests, along with hundreds of species of wildlife.

When you arrive, check out the Visitor’s Center for a quick run down on the history of the area and the importance of these wetlands.

Then you’ll begin your boardwalk journey through the bayous and swamps.
