Long ago, Champoeg was an influential pioneer settlement. However, in 1861 the Willamette River rose and the town was destroyed in a flood.

Today, you can learn about the ghost town and the early Oregon pioneers by exploring the historical buildings-turned-museums and checking out the exhibits at the visitor center. You’ll also find the amazing Butteville Store, which dates back to 1863, making it the oldest still-operating store in the state.
