Since 1982, Reno has been the home of the world’s largest free hot-air balloon festival that attracts more than 200 hot-air balloons and 120,000 spectators each year. For three glorious days in early September, the skies over Reno are decorated with hundreds of colorful, unique, and spectacular hot-air balloons.

The festival was originally conceived to keep visitors in town for the weekend between the Nevada State Fair and the Reno Air Races.

A crowd favorite is the “dawn patrol” where the stunning glow of dozens of beautiful balloons light up the early morning sky in a musically choreographed display. Other morning activities include a pajama party and scavenger hunt before the mass launch as the sun rises.
