The Magnificent Minnesota Hike That Leads To A Little Known Waterfall

So many waterfalls, so little time. That goes double for hiking trails. We Minnesotans are blessed to live in a state that has so much to do that it’s nearly impossible to squeeze it all in. But there’s one magnificent hike that you should move to the top of your list. It’s not the most popular hike in Minnesota, but it does lead to a spectacular waterfall. Check it out:

The Kawishiwi Falls trail is located in the Superior National Forest near Ely.

The trail can be accessed from the parking lot on Fernberg Road about 5 miles outside of Ely.

It’s a 1.5-mile loop trail that least straight to a beautiful, secluded waterfall.

The trail can be extended to include the portage trail between Garden and Fall Lakes.

Regardless of your choice, you are going to see some incredible sights on this relatively easy trail. Old, twisted trees line the path of this gorgeous trail.

The 70-foot drop of this waterfall is a definite must-see for all nature lovers in Minnesota.

This spot is also a popular climbing area. Many manage to stand atop the falls for a rare view of the river below.

However, the area is prone to flooding. Do be careful if you plan to do any climbing.
