Following two severe floods, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began researching ways to avoid future tragedies. The result? The largest small-scale model ever built, and it’s right here in Mississippi.

After so much hard work, it’s hard to believe that this one-time wonder was just abandoned. The model is now deteriorated and overgrown but still an interesting site. Want to see it for yourself? The Mississippi River Basin Model is located in Butts Park, which is located at 6180 McRaven Rd. in Jackson.
