As one of the oldest cities in Mississippi, Vicksburg is full of sites believed to be haunted, and that includes the Vicksburg National Military Park. The park is one of the most renowned military parks in the entire country, yet many are unaware that it’s as haunted as it is historic.

In the summer of 1863, one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War took place on the lush greenery and rolling hills that now make up the Vicksburg National Military Park.

The hundreds of monuments and thousands of grave markers that fill the park serve as a constant reminder of the horror the land had once seen.

And apparently, those aren’t the only reminders. There have been several reports of inexplicable occurrences at the park. One such occurrence involves the Pennsylvania Monument.

The monument contains five bronze medallions, which feature the faces of the Pennsylvanian commanders. According to several reports, the faces appear, at times, to be crying tears of blood.

Strange things have also taken place at the park’s Texas Monument. Aside from orbs being photographed in the area, there have been times that smoke appeared to be coming from the cannon of the bronze statue.

The battlefield is also teeming with supernatural activity. Apparitions of soldiers, phantom sounds of battle, including cannons, gunfire, and shouted orders, and phantom smells of gunpowder and smoke have been reported.
