The village of Sugarcreek is a popular stop when visiting Ohio Amish Country and it features some truly unique architecture, murals and other attractions that can make you feel like you’re walking through a living, breathing storybook.

Tucked away in the heart of Ohio Amish Country, this Tuscarawas County village is home to approximately 2,220 people.

You’ll find unique architecture and a charming atmosphere in this unique town. It prides itself in its German and Swiss heritage, and you can’t leave without bringing purchasing some homemade Swiss cheese while you’re in town.

Sugarcreek is also famously known for being the home of the World’s Largest Cuckoo Clock.

With a rich railroad history, Sugarcreek was actually called “Shanesville” once upon a time. Towns emerged around the train depot, changing the name to “Sugar Creek.”

Today, the town is an unbelievably charming stop to make while you’re exploring the countryside.

While you’re in town, be sure to stop by the Alpine Hills Historical Museum on Main Street. It features displays that depict the early years of the community and surrounding area.
