Little Sahara State Park is located in northwestern Oklahoma at 101 Main Street, Waynoka, OK.

The park was originally seen as a nuisance to the locals, but in the 1950s it was purchased and turned into a city park by Alva’s Chamber of Commerce.

The city actually bought two camels and named the park Little Sahara to lure visitors to the area. The park was later sold to the state in 1960.

Most visitors come to Little Sahara to ride dune buggies and ATV’s. The dunes range in height from 25 to 75 feet, making it perfect for this popular activity.

The area of Waynoka has several places to rent 4x4 vehicles or you can bring your own. The cost to get on the sand is only $10 per person (not including the rental price of vehicles).

If you would like to visit the sand dunes but not ride a 4x4 vehicle, there is a newly built walkway and viewing platform where you can enjoy the sand dunes from afar.
