Named one of the “8 Wonders of Kansas” by the Kansas Sampler Foundation, Castle Rock is a geologic wonder that towers high above the plains of Gove County.

Located 11 miles south of Quinter, these large limestone foundations are estimated to have been formed during the Cretaceous Period some 80 million years ago and are comprised of chalk deposits.

As per Trimble Outdoors, the hike around Castle Rock is 2.36 miles and can be accessed by taking “the Quinter exit, 107, 50 miles east of Hays from I-70. Turn left onto Castle Rock Rd. and drive south 15 miles. Turn left onto County Road K, drive 4 miles. Turn left onto County Road 80, drive 1 mile to the overlook and continue 1.2 miles looping east and north to the second turn-around.”
