Vermont general stores are known for having everything you need. In fact, it’s often touted that “If we don’t have it, you don’t need it.” Well, there’s one place that has what you need, what you want and things you’ve never seen before. Welcome to Hero’s Welcome, the quirkiest general store in VT and beyond! From the building to the setting to the merchandise, this shop is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Let’s take a look!
Situated on the waterfront on the island of North Hero is Hero’s Welcome.

It’s the hub of the island and it’s where locals and visitors go for everything from a morning coffee to Christmas gifts (and everything in between).
Hero’s Welcome/Facebook
Hero’s Welcome was reopened in 1993 and they have been stocking and selling unique items ever since.

For example, this item has a sign that reads “Memorable Anniversary Gifts. Upstairs, Downstairs, Online and Out Back.”
Photo Credit Wait… Is that sign on a ball and chain? HA HA!!!!
Another example of the good natured humor you’ll find here is the benches out front. One is painted red for Republicans and the other is blue for Democrats.

Everything in the store is unique, and if you can’t make it to the store (but you should really try), you can order online here.
Yelp/Baldur B. Can anyone guess why Isle LaMotte is a few hours off?
The sandwiches at the deli are hard to beat, and you’ll love the names such as the “Sod Buster” the “Vegetarian Princess” or the “Benedict Arnold”… For when it’s time to switch, naturally!

And the bakery? Woah!
