West Virginia is known to host plenty of unique events and festivities, but there’s one in particular that just may take the cake. Known as the West Virginia Roadkill Cook-Off, this Autumn Harvest Festival is anything but normal. In addition to sampling some unusual delicacies, visitors to this festival can experience live music, races, and other hometown events.

The annual West Virginia Roadkill Cook-Off takes place at 200 Eighth Street Marlinton, West Virginia.

If you didn’t know any better, you might mistake this Autumn Harvest Festival for your run-of-the-mill event. Yet the 10,000 visitors to the small town in Pocahontas County are well aware of the exotic dishes served here.

The Road Kill Cook-off is definitely the most unique of the festival’s events. It’s under these tents that participants prepare dishes such as rabbit stew, venison chili and squirrel gravy over biscuits.
Prior to the public viewing and sampling, the judges sample the entries and pick a winner for each of the many cooking categories.

And if you’re not into sampling such creative cooking, fret not, because there’s also a biscuit bake-off.

Other activities include a Possom Trot race, arts and crafts fair, live music, a farmers market, and horseshoe pitching.
