Before I begin this article, can we all just take a second to acknowledge the fact that Colorado has some of the most devastatingly beautiful bodies of water in the world? Seriously, I will argue that you will not find water more gorgeous or blue anywhere else but in Centennial State, because of places like this stunning sapphire lake:

Located along the Western Slope of Colorado lies the charming town of Gunnison; a former railroad town that now houses nearly 6,000 residents.

In addition to the many shops, restaurants, and museums around town, the Gunnison-area is also home to some of the most beautiful outdoor attractions in the world, including the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park (pictured).

While we find all of these natural wonders to be simply stunning, our favorite place of all would have to be the Blue Mesa Reservoir.

Created by the Blue Mesa Dam, Blue Mesa Reservoir is 20 miles long, making it the largest body of water in the state!

Nestled in the heart of the Curecanti National Recreation Area, Blue Mesa is surrounded by not just gorgeous greenery, but also dramatic canyons and mesas.

While we love nearly every aspect of this enchanting area, our favorite part of all would have to be the brilliantly blue waters of this large reservoir.
