Most people don’t know that Seattle, Washington is hiding a real-life community of mermaids.

We usually think of mermaids as the stuff of storybooks and Disney films, but this Pacific coast city actually has a growing number of people who live as mermaids – sometimes full-time.

Inside Edition/YouTube Some mermaids, such as Caitlin Nielsen, actually quit their jobs in order to pursue the mermaid lifestyle full time. Nielson goes by the mer name of “Cyanea,” makes her own tails and jokes that she considers her legs a birth defect which is corrected by wearing her prosthetic tail.
