You can pick up sweet treats just about anywhere, but if you’re looking for a truly unique dessert experience, you have to visit the Velvet Cream or, as locals call it, the Dip. In business for decades, the “walk-up fast food joint” offers plenty of retro appeal, in addition to a bevy of mouthwatering desserts, burgers, and more. Still owned by the same family, Velvet Cream was first opened in 1947. At that time, walk-up fast food restaurants were extremely popular, especially among teenagers – and Velvet Cream was no exception.

There’s a drive-thru, but if it’s your first visit, you’ll want to use the walk-up window to place your order, so you can take your time looking over the menu. And you’ll need plenty of time because it’s pretty extensive.
