There’s something unusual about the White River. Instead of flowing southward, like most sensible rivers, it flows northward from its source in Northwest Arkansas, into Missouri, and then flows back south, through Arkansas where it will eventually meet with the mighty Mississippi.
The White River doesn’t get nearly as much love as the Buffalo National River for its scenic qualities or as much recognition for its importance in travel and trade as the Arkansas River, but that doesn’t mean the White River isn’t as important and as beautiful as those other rivers. The White River has a rich history, a vital role in the development of the Natural State, and more scenic beauty than you can imagine.
Including its brief jaunt into Missouri, the White River is 722 miles of pure beauty.
