Though North Dakota is primarily wide open prairies, there are spots in the state with the kind of rugged terrain you’d expect in places like Arizona. These rough buttes and valleys create our own Grand Canyon of sorts. Luckily, there is a hike through it that is the perfect way to experience it. Here’s why you’ll want to take it:
This trail is known as the Wind Canyon trail. It’s located in the South Unit of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

The view from the top is well worth the trip, especially late in the day. It overlooks the steep canyon walls surrounding the Little Missouri River. This is by far one of the top, most stunning views in all of the South Unit.
