A tree house is a magical place and most of us have extremely fond memories of growing up climbing into one or wishing we could. Have you ever heard of an underground tree house, though? There’s one right here in Northern California and it is hands down one of the coolest tree houses you’ll probably ever lay eyes on. It is called the Eternal Tree House and it’s located along the Avenue of Giants in Humboldt County.

The Eternal Treehouse is actually a a 20-foot-cave inside of a redwood stump. It was hollowed out by a prehistoric fire.

It wasn’t always so roomy inside. It was carved from the inside out in the early 1900s by Harry McLeod. It was given windows and other additions in the 1950s. It’s a charming little spot, the likes of which you won’t see anywhere else in the world.
