It’s not uncommon to see an unusual roadside attraction while you’re traveling along a highway in any one of America’s states. I’m sure we’ve all seen our fair share of questionable gas stations and rest stops throughout our lifetime, but this one Northern California service station is unforgettable for a much more pleasing reason.
Just a few minutes away from Highway 101, The Redwood Tree Service Station was made from a tree that was over 1,500 years old.
TheDocIsOut/TripAdvisor When ancient wood was fertile during the 1930s, these quirky service stations began to pop up in America. In 1932 a service station like this one was created in Lamar, Colorado as well as Decatur, Texas in 1935.
The tree was chosen from the Coastal Redwood Forests just 17 miles west from the city of Ukiah. When the tree was cut down it was 250 feet high and a circumference with a total of 81 feet at the base.
This eye-catching attraction was completed in 1936; roofs and a canopy were added to the structure after being covered with Redwood shakes.

During business hours, visitors can come and check out the museum that exists inside “The Stump” as locals call it. Since the 1930s tourists have been stopping here to see the fascinating station and to take their own photos.
You’ll even find two smaller logs were used to create the restrooms that you can see behind the museum!
