The latest hidden treasure to hit the western corner of our state, this one quirky museum that just recently opened is unlike any other that you’ve ever visited.

Nestled amongst the mountains in Jackson County, the small town of Sylva has given you another reason to come explore this beautiful area.

Officially opening its doors on April 1st, the Museum of the House Cat can be found at the Old School Antique Mall right in town.

Known by those in the area as “The Cat Man,” Harold Sims has turned his over 30-year collection of all things cat related into one of our favorite new museums.

With so much to see and lots of items that will strike your curiosity, you’ll be surprised to see just how many different things are here.

Where cat-lovers can now come to rejoice, you’ll see a variety of things like a hand-carved carousel cat to an actual petrified cat that looks like it deserves to be a character in the Coraline movie.

Open every day except Monday, the museum is run by volunteers with Harold Sims often making appearances to provide wonderful details about all the pieces here.
