If you’re from Florida, you’re probably sick of hearing the same few things every time someone asks you where you’re from. It’s almost always about retirees, theme parks or gators. I guess that’s all anyone hears about Florida in other parts of the country (and the world). Here are some of the most popular questions people ask when they find out you’re from Florida and how you should answer them, (or at least how I would answer them).
- “Isn’t that only for old people?”
Flickr/Barbara Ann Spengler Yes, I’m actually 97 years old. All the sunshine and fresh air just keeps you young.
- “Oh, so you live in Miami?”
Flickr/Craig ONeal First of all, how do you not see how huge Florida is? There are 20 million people living here. We don’t all live in Miami.
- “Where are you really from?”
Flickr/Hazel1234567 It’s true, Florida has a lot of transplants and snowbirds, but I swear some of us were actually born here. It happens every day, in fact.
- “So you live on the water?”
Flickr/Daniel Piraino Ha, I wish. There’s plenty of land that’s not really close to the water.
- “Oh, then do you live in a trailer?”
Flickr/Richard Elzey Uh, no. But if I ever want to, I will. It’s really not that big of a deal. A lot of people do it just to save money.
- “How do you deal with all the alligators everywhere?”
Flickr/Allen McGregor I really don’t know. I’ve lost three pool boys this month.
- “So you must go to Disney World all the time, right?”
Flickr/Joe Penniston I went a lot when I was a kid, but it’s actually been years since I visited a theme park. Hmm…maybe a road trip is in order.
- “So you’re at the beach like 24/7, right?”
Flickr/Reinhard Link Funny enough, a lot of people find that once they move to Florida they don’t end up going to the beach every day of the week like they envisioned they would. I guess knowing it’s always there makes you less obsessed with being there all the time.
