Washington is a wonderful state, but there are certainly some things around here that are better off being avoided. For example:

  1. City hipsters.

You know, the ones who liked everything way before it became too “mainstream”. Their natural habitat is at a cafe with free WiFi, and they’ll occasionally migrate out of state to Portland.

  1. Black bears.

If you do come across one of these beasts, slowly & quietly walk away while it’s not looking in your direction. If it is staring you down or approaching, experts suggest to scare it away by clapping your hands, stomping your feet, or yelling & staring it in the eyes. If you’re with others, stand together shoulder-to shoulder and wave your arms. If you have pepper spray, use it!

  1. The Hilltop area in Tacoma.

This neighborhood is notorious for gang violence, drugs and shootings.

  1. Cheap beer.

Flickr / drust We have way too many amazing microbrews around Washington for you to be in THAT part of the beer aisle! Cheers!

  1. Western rattlesnakes.

More commonly found in Eastern Washington, these reptiles are actually the only type of snake in our state capable of inflicting a venomous bite!

  1. The intersection of 3rd Ave & Pike St. in downtown Seattle.

“McStabby’s” is just not worth the trip - find a dollar menu elsewhere! Plus, it’s always way too overcrowded and weird.

  1. Drivers on I-5.

  1. Being unhappy!

Depression isn’t uncommon around here, and suicide is actually one of the leading causes of death in our state. It’s always a good practice to try to avoid negativity and stay as happy as possible!

What are some other things and/or places around our state that Washingtonians should steer clear of? Add to this list in the comments below!
