There are a lot of strange abandoned buildings in Louisiana, but this abandoned jail in Deridder, LA might just be one of the most ominous. The jail was built in 1914 and from the beginning has been plagued with rumors of hauntings and spirits. And of course, once it stopped being used, the rumors just continued.

This jail is also known as the Gothic jail and the Hanging jail, and it has been put on the National Register of Historic Places.

The jail is unique in its construction because it placed a toilet, sink, shower, and window in each cell.

From then on the jail became known as the ‘Hanging Jail’ and other hauntings were reported.

Rumors continued to flare up after the jail closed in 1984, and a picture was taken where there appeared to be a spirit sitting on the porch of the jail.

Since the closing there have been numerous paranormal investigations of the place, turning up some very interesting evidence.
