Central State Hospital, formally known as the Central Indiana Hospital for the Insane was a psychiatric treatment facility located in Indianapolis. Rumor has it this old insane asylum is very much haunted. What do you think?
First, here is a picture of the 1895 Pathology Building on the grounds of Central State Hospital.

The hospital was renamed the “Central Indiana Hospital for the Insane” in 1889.

After 1926, it was known as simply as Central State Hospital.

From the years 1848 to 1948, the hospital grew incredibly.

SHVWNCOOPER It eventually encompassed two massive ornate buildings (one for male and one for female patients); a pathological department; a farm colony for occupational therapy; a “sick” hospital intended for the treatment of physical ailments; a chapel; an amusement hall; a bakery; and so much more.
By the early 1970s, most of the hospital’s Victorian-era style buildings were declared unsound.

As with many old insane asylums, there are tons of rumors to suggest the patients were mistreated.

Some of these rumors suggest that barbaric methods were used in the early days of this facility.
