When many people hear about hikes in Maine, images of the Appalachian Trail and summiting Katahdin come to mind. While we certainly have our fair share of toughies, there are many that are both accessible and gorgeous. One of our favorites is this one, located near some of the most popular lighthouses in America!

First, head to Two Lights State Park in Cape Elizabeth.

While the short hike will take you to the water, standing above the coast gives incredible views of Casco Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.

To get to the starting point from Portland, head South on ME-77.

It’s very rocky and as you head further down, you’ll notice that it smells like the typical Maine coast!

You’re also likely to spot some new animal friends such as barnacles and snails in the tidal pools.

Once you’ve explored the beach, head to the grassy area to the right of the parking lot and then further down onto the rocks.

It’s most beautiful on a stormy day, but this is also extremely dangerous and we urge you to take caution.

Take some time to enjoy the area if the weather is nice!

And then return to the top to explore the state park!
