When you live in a city like Portland, you’re always thinking about what adventure to go on next, whether it’s a beach, a mountain, a new restaurant, or a challenging hike. It’s never a hard feat to figure out what to do, especially when it comes to being in the great outdoors.
This summer there is one Oregon trail that you HAVE to hike, because it leads to a giant slice of heaven.
Flickr/Keith Ewing It’s always better to go on a hike earlier in the day because that’s when it’s less crowded and the birds are chirping. So start early and drive to the Columbia Gorge; the drive alone is a gorgeous adventure. Take exit 41 towards Eagle Creek.
Once you get to the lot, find a parking spot either in the upper or lower lot. If you park in the lower lot, you start of the hike with a stroll along the peaceful Eagle Creek.
Flickr/Mike Driggs Then, the real fun begins. You are walking at a small incline for about a quarter of a mile and then you reach the narrow and steep paths along the cliff; seriously, you’ll feel like you’re in an Indiana Jones movie when you’re holding on to the tight rope to get across.
Flickr/Keith Ewing You’ll meet a miniature waterfall with gorgeous mist strewed all over. This is the perfect place to find a rock to sit on and enjoy the beautiful nature.
Flickr/Redfishingboat (Mick O) You’ll continue on the hike for about a mile longer to where you’ll find the option to go onwards or to go down and see the water. Choose the water. You’ll slowly walk down the extremely steep hill to what we know as Punchbowl Falls.
You’ll see a gigantic mossy cliff that towers anyone that stands next to it.
