Maine has no shortage of fun and quirky little stops along the road. Some of more well-known roadside attractions are the ones that tower over the street, such as Big Jim the Fisherman in Prospect Harbor and Earth, the giant globe near Freeport. But, there are some pretty great places to stop during a road trip in Maine that might surprise you. This store is one of them!

Perry’s Nut House began back in 1927 when I.L. Perry opened the shop to sell the bumper crop of Pecans growing in the South.

Over the years, he added curios and oddities and the shop, making it a nationally known stop.

The store included things such as an alligator hide, trick mirrors, boxing bear cubs, and a water buffalo shot by Teddy Roosevelt!

Perry’s Nut House is located at 45 Searsport Avenue in Belfast on the south side of Route 1 about a mile west of the Belfast bridge.
