The new movement in housing is clear: simple is better! If you’re from Maine, you know that we’ve understood this all along. Keep it simple, keep it real. This tiny house in Western Maine embodies the notion of simple living – from a small, eco-friendly footprint to a composting toilet (it’s not gross, we promise!) to access to a wonderful, meandering river. And the best part is that it’s open for rental.
The house was built by one owner with his bare hands.

The details of the home are the best part - like these ceramic fish made by a friend.

Winter nights can be spent around the campfire, which is conveniently near the pre-chopped wood!

The guest house was built first to accommodate the owner/builder during construction and it’s so cozy!

It’s also where the compost toilet sits - don’t worry, it’s not smelly!

Now, onto the main house!

At about 200 square feet, it’s certainly small.

The loft area might be the best.

Plenty of room to stand up straight and allows for easy bird listening in the morning.

Speaking of birds, there’s a whole area full of feeders to watch from the giant window inside.

And, when you’re tired of being inside, you can head out in to the newly constructed screen room.
