New Hampshire is full of beautiful small towns, but Dixville Notch is smaller – and more beautiful – than most.
Patrick/flickr In 2010, the population of Dixville Notch was a mere 12 people. Although many more people come through the community as tourists, it isn’t one of New Hampshire’s most well-known communities. However, it is well worth a trip.
TravelingOtter/flickr One reason Dixville Notch sometimes goes unnoticed is because it’s so far north. The drive will take you about 2 hours and 40 minutes from Concord, and about 3.5 hours from southern New Hampshire. However, the remote location is part of what makes Dixville Notch so charming.
Patrick/flickr Lake Glorietta is picturesque, surrounded by striking mountains. The shores of the lake are also home to the majestic Balsams resort. Although the resort is not currently open, there are plans to reopen. For now, the hotel provides an enchanted-looking prop in the New Hampshire wilderness.

Jimmy Emerson/flickr The park is full of waterfalls and streams, and full of hiking and walking opportunities.
Jim Leistman/flickr One of the most popular attractions in the park is Table Rock. The ledge hangs more than 2,500 feet over the ravine below.
Stew Stryker/flickr Although the view from the top is gorgeous, the hike up and down is also strikingly beautiful.
Jimmy Emerson/flickr Of course, another advantage of Dixville Notch is that the wildlife is first rate.
Carol Vinzent/flickr Of course, Dixville Notch is just as beautiful during the winter.
Axel Drainville/flickr lt’s no wonder that Dixville Notch has become a much-loved vacation destination for those who have visited.
