There are many unique little towns scattered across Wyoming, and we’re well aware of how cool they are. It’s nice, though, to get recognition from outside the state.

Matador Network recently put together a list of the 24 U.S. towns that are the coolest, based on actual input from vacationers. In looking at destinations that are trending among travelers, Lander, Wyoming ended up on the list of the coolest towns and we couldn’t agree more.

Lander, Wyoming is located along the Wind River Range.

With a population of under 8,000, it’s a true small town, but it has a lot to offer.

First off, Lander is the where the National Outdoor Leadership School was started and is currently headquartered.

The area in and around Lander offers prime opportunities for outdoor sports including hiking, rock climbing, and mountain biking. Naturally, one of the best little bike shops in the state can be found here.

You won’t be jones-ing for a decent coffee when you visit Lander. Travelers are usually pleasantly surprised that the city has several shops where they can get a “Seattle-quality” cuppa joe.

There’s loads of history in Lander, too, with three museums and several buildings on the historical registry, like the Grand Theatre.

With Sinks Canyon practically in Lander’s back yard, you won’t have to travel far from town to camp in one of the best and most beautiful camp grounds in the country.

While many vacation destinations have water parks, few can claim to have a natural water slide like the one on the Popo Agie River, also in Sinks Canyon.

For the outdoors enthusiasts, Lander has a handful of outfitters, too, including a super-cool alpaca outfitter that will take you on an unforgettable tour of the Wind River Range.
