But few people realize there’s an eerier side to this Pacific Northwest state, and a prime example is the living ghost town of Tiller. While this town isn’t necessarily spooky in the traditional sense, there’s something haunting about the fact that it’s virtually abandoned. Settled along the South Umpqua River, there’s no denying that this is one of the most picturesque areas of the state.

The town, however, lies completely abandoned.

Tiller was established as a timber town in 1902 and named for Aaron Tiller, an early settler.

As demand for timber declined, so did the town itself. Today, the remaining structures are six homes, a general store, a school and an apartment.

In fact, the 250 acres that make up Tiller have recently been listed on the market for 3.85 million.
