Lakes like Rayburn and Travis get a lot of attention during the summer, but there’s another lake that deserves much more recognition than it gets. That lake is Toledo Bend, a reservoir on the Sabine River between Texas and Louisiana. The water is beautiful, it’s one of the best fishing spots in the nation, and there are plenty of activities to enjoy from boating to hunting to picnicking. So “water” you waiting for?

The largest man-made lake in the Southern U.S., Toledo Bend has also been named the number one bass fishing lake in the country.

It’s also the site of the Bassmaster Elite Series Tournament, a festival in mid-May that brings together the best bass anglers in America to test their skills against each other.

If you want to extend your stay overnight, there are plenty of campsites you can stay in. Geronimo Village Campground and Six Mile Marina are just a few of many options.

Not to mention the simple fact that the water is beautiful! That’s a rarity here in Texas, so we should take full advantage of it.

All in all, Toledo Bend is an often overlooked lake that deserves a top spot on your summer 2017 bucket list. Who’s ready to jump in?
