The story is that Joe Geraci, the original owner of the park, loved the dinosaurs that were at a putt-putt golf course he visited while in Florida and thought they would be a unique attraction to add to his gift shop in Virginia.

Eventually he realized that the dinosaurs were the main attraction and renamed his place “Dinosaur Land.” The park is still owned and operated by Joe’s family.

Dinosaur Land is exactly as it looks. It was built in the 1960s and not much has been added to it since so it’s slightly kitschy and a bit silly.

But that’s one of the things that makes it a must-visit destination. The park is larger than it first appears and there is plenty to see as you explore it.
